Natalie Bond: How would you describe Texas style?
Cassie King: Texans definitely have a unique style. It’s not like New York where everyone’s wearing skinny jeans one season and big scarves the next. Every Texan is unique - some hippie chic, some cowboy cool, some super fashion forward. That’s one thing I love about Texas, we have a little bit of everything.
NB: Yes indeed. How would you describe your personal style?
CK: Good question. My style fits my mood – one day it’s a jumper, the next it’s a t-shirt and scarf or a long simple dress. I have a myriad of styles in my closet so I choose accordingly, but always strive for elegance.
NB: Love it. Who are your favorite designers?
CK: Twelfth Street by Cynthia Vincent, Geren Ford, 3.1 Phillip Lim, ADAM, the list goes on … Basically anything fun, flirty, but not too outrageous. I also love finding great vintage pieces!
NB: You’re constantly approached for fashion advice as co-founder of your jewelry company, Cassandra Collections. What rule do you never break?
CK: Never wear UGGs when it’s above 60°. That’s one thing some Texans do too often.
NB: I dislike that too. Who are your style icons?
CK: I absolutely love Audrey Hepburn (I know, a little cliché). But her style is timeless – still trying to emulate it! I also really like the classic style of Penelope Cruz, the funky style of Rachel Bilson and the laid back style of Jennifer Aniston.
NB: What is your next “must have” purchase?
CK: A new fabulous scarf – still searching for it.
NB: That’s a serious staple. What item can you not live without?
CK: My rings that I design! I always have to be wearing one on each hand. I absolutely love how they make me feel and they “complete me.”
NB: Agreed. What do you feel best wearing?
CK: Jeans, t-shirt and a fun scarf. My grandmother left me some amazing scarves, so I try to dress up every outfit with one.
