Michael Phelps Nastia Liukin
When the creators of PureSport performance drinks announced that Michael Phelps and Nastia Liukin received the 2009 ESPY Award for Best Male and Best Female athlete, we couldn’t help but wonder, does PureSport hold the answer to success? Both Olympic competitors turned to the sports drink while training for the games in Beijing…and they’re hooked. It comes as no surprise then that the Austin-based company is steadily rising to the top, taking gold medalists and world-renowned athletes along for the journey.
Michael Humphrey, CEO of PureSport in Austin, believes that the correlation between the sports drink and the athletes’ performance level is hard to ignore. “PureSport is the most scientifically-sound and effective sports drink in the world and it helps athletes get more out of their performances,” he admits. “Gold medalists will tell you, it’s the new gold standard in performance drinks.”
The patent-pending beverages made their debut in July of 2008, when Dr. John Ivy, Chair of the Department of Kinesiology and Health Education at the University of Texas at Austin, created PureSport Workout and PureSport Recovery. The two formulas are designed to improve endurance and strengthen muscle tissue.
“PureSport’s Recovery drink helped me race at peak levels day after day at the Olympics,” states Phelps. “It makes a huge difference in terms of reducing muscle tissue damage and soreness and promoting muscle repair.”
Could this be pure luck? We think not. The number one athletes in the world turn to the same energy beverage for a reason and Brilliant loves to see Texas-based companies take the lead. The 17th Annual ESPY Awards aired July 19 on ESPN. Phelps arrived in a classic ensemble from Italo Zucchelli, head menswear designer for Calvin Klein. When dressed by the best, Phelps can conquer the fashion world as well. For more information on PureSport, click here.
